  • You can try a different medication. They don't all make you gain weight.
  • Perhaps you need a different doctor ... Like one who will take you off of the anti depressants and put you on a GOOD diet and exercise program ..... I was 350 pounds at one point ... a size 56 waist ... I began walking one mile from my home and one mile back at a quick pace ...not really fast .... I began drinking One 16 ounce glass of ICE water BEFORE each meal and one glass during each meal. Then I'd have two , usually one mid evening and one later ... for a total of EIGHT during the day ... I continued to eat the same foods ... even the fattening ones ... BUT; L E S S of them ...as well as LESS Portions of my regular fooods .... I quit drinking ANY soda pop for the most part .. and went to flavored waters and diet green teas ... IN six months I was 190 pounds !! I'm not saying this would work for Everyone ; BUT .. It COULD work for you .... ?
  • yeah probally take a different medication and read the side effects to make sure they dont cause wait gain. I hope you find something.
  • They're supposed to help you by working on the chemicals in your brain, the imbalance of which causes depression. Weight gain is a side effects of some of them -- I suggest you look up which antidepressants don't do it (for an example, I'm taking Welbutrin right now, which probably has made me lose some).
  • You have to make a change in your lifestyle...it is time to limit the amount of food you are eating and get out and walk. Good nutrition and fresh air will change your attitude and your weight. You can take all the pills you want but it won't change anything if you don't change your routine. I know this because I was there and still bounce every once in awhile back a little.
  • If this is the 1st anti-depressant you've ever tried, I would talk 2 your doctor about switching 2 a different one. Very often with a-ds you need 2 try a couple different ones before u find the right one (or 2) 4 u. I tried Lexapro & Paxil before I found that a combination of Paxil CR & Welbutrin SR works best 4 me. Cymbalta, Effexor, & Serzone are some that are not supposed 2 cause weight gain & Welbutrin can help some people lose weight. Good luck. :-)
  • Look on the bright side (so you don't have to take those pills) your not dead & dying. If you want to lose weight you have to put your mind to it. Go to the gym for an hour three days a week, or go to weight watchers.com. My mom has lost almost 30 pounds sense christmas and is feeling better, looks better too! Look on the bright side of things, if you start working out. You're a day closer to being fit! I'm not trying to sound harsh, but that is my point of view. Just try your hardest to get healthy and you will!
  • Hope ypu get better and get over this.
  • My s/o has the same problem with anti-depressants. She has to take them, but many of them have bad side effects, one of which is weight gain. She keeps talking to her doctor, and her doctor keeps trying different meds. The one she is currently on is supposed to be a weight gainer, but it's not as bad as the Zyprexa she was on. We're also both Weight Watchers, and I cook healthy foods all of the time, and we also get out and walk when the weather is nice. I know from the almost 5 years we've been together that those meds are tough on your weight. It's a vicious cycle sometimes of taking something to feel better, then gaining weight and getting depressed over that. See if your doctor can try a different medication.
  • Scrappy I take Prozac for my cluster migraines and after taking it for 3 months noticed a gain in my weight. I went and spoke to my doctor and we switched and I can already tell the difference and it has been only 3 weeks. So really talk with your doctor there are other options. (((HUG))) +5
  • I don't know what they have you on but I've been taking zoloft and I lost weight, maybe you can talk to him about getting on that instead, but the bad thing about zoloft is you have withdrawals if you just stop taking it or miss a few dosses, but it has helped me, good luck to you
  • Many Antidepressants have the side effect of weight gain,I lost 47 pounds since last summer(08) by changing my eating and especially drinking habits,I was diagnosed with diabetes and needed to change something,,,drinking regular mountain dew all day and into the night,,,big no no.also I cut out many carbs and sweets from my diet,,all this without changing my meds
  • I was diagnosed with anxiety/depression disorder back in 97. Over the years I was put on Paxil, Wellbutrin, Effexor, and one that starts with a C that I can't remember. None of them helped. Some made the depression worse, others made me feel like I was under a constant strobe light, one caused weight gain and ruined sexual desire, and some just made me down right nauseous. In October I quit smoking and started gaining weight. I went to the pharmacy to find something to help lose weight. I decided on "Relacore". I have lost only about 5 lbs. since I started taking it, but I lost ALL my depression. See if it works for you. Good Luck! :) ++
