To defend themself.
-
It's a way of making their racist views "not their fault". They can blame it on someone else this way.
-
It's a cop out. It's kind of like making it seem like they had no other choice. That everyone who raised and taught them was wrong and not them.
-
Laziness. It takes enlightenment and will to change a point of view. If you slough it off on your parents and they way they raised you, they can stay ignorant. It's takes a lot less energy.
-
It is another way of saying, I was raised ignorant and wish to stay that way because I cannot think for myself.
-
Well, it is used as an excuse because it is true. The person was raised that way. However, this is only half the story. Even if the person is raised that way, they grow up and become responsible for their own thoughts and opinions. Refusing to rid oneself of inherited prejudice is one's own responsibility. Basically, "So now that you are older and can think for yourself, what do YOU think about it?"
-
Probably beacause they were raised very ignorant.
-
Or maybe they were raised within themselves in closed surroundings closed to the real world.
-
It's a pathetic dodge of a possition they cannot righteously defend.
-
because 'blame' is the most popular thing to do. People just cant seem to get past their pride.
-
duplicate, sorry
-
Simply out of ignorance. It's as if they are saying they are too stupid to rise above what they are taught. Ignorance does tend to breed ignorance but not in all cases.
-
Agreeing with most of the above comments: laziness, having an excuse, justifying their racism. They could do something but they won't because they like the feeling of superiority. I have respect for people who were raised as a racist but started thinking for themselves and became non-racists.
-
They inherited their parents rascist views, and it has become a habbit to express them.
-
Very sad excuse.
-
I don't! Though I was, I had enough of my own free thought and intelligence to break away from that. If someone uses that as an "excuse" they still are, or don't know any better.
-
I haven't heard that for a while, but it is as good an excuse for ignorance as any I suppose. It is a way of saying, "I may be an adult now, but I am still unwilling to think for myself."
-
Because they don't want to change.
-
I suppose because the Christians can say "That is just the way I was raised" when they put down gays.
-
Because they have to have atleast one excuse when they are confronted with the stupidity that comes out of their mouth.
-
Because that was also the part of their upbringing:Live without thoughts in your brain.:-)
-
They dont want to change, or take responsibility for their own actions, they want everyone, to think it isnt their fault.
-
Although your parents are a huge influence on your predjudices, they are not the deciding factor. I think some people want to be blame free for everything they do.
