  • On modern cars, there is a steering wheel lock to prevent theft and help with towing. I assume this is what you refer to. To disable the lock, you need to turn the key in the ignition cylinder to the on position. If you didn't move the wheel while it was locked, it will go easily. If you heard a click and the wheel locked, then you need to jiggle the key and the wheel at the same time. Don't use brute force since this can damage the key or ignition. It might take up to a minute, but you need to move the wheel left and right and apply firm, constant pressure to the key like you are trying to turn on the car. Soon enough, everything will line up and it will turn like butter. Make sure you are using the right key too... Hope this helps, Good Luck
