Personally I try not to use them online. I prefer similes. I am curious. Did you post this under honesty because you think people who speak in metaphors are dishonest?

Only when soaring with the eagles. When scouring the ocean floor with the bottom feeders my speech remains crystalline.

Language is so riddled with metaphors it's hard to say anything without them. (eg 'riddled'). Even the simplest phrases ("I'm down" or "You'll get over it" are metaphors. We all speak in metaphors.

Like an eternal spring! I prefer puns but metaphors are nice too. Cliches' are nice too but a bit over done.
