On the roof.. I had this friend who lived in a three story house and there was an outside set up steps leading from the 3rd to the 2nd floor, the rest of the stairs were inside. We would take the outside stairs and get onto the roof and run around up there, probably not the safest thing I did as a kid, our parents never knew about it.

I grew up next to railroad tracks and a creek and a junkyard. I loved to play in all of them, unsupervised after say the age of six or seven. The train line was very slow and once a day. The creek wasn't that deep. Oh how I loved this independence. Guardians-know your environments and know your child.
