  • yeah it does. what type of food are you talking about. the dog biscuits can be around for a while but if you are on about the tinned stuff i would chuck it out if my dog hadnt ate it after the first day. i dont normally use the tinned stuff anyway because it tends to go straight through my dogs. my dogs love the biscuits with the chunky meat pieces. dog food isnt normally around long enough for it to go off anyway
  • Might want to specify what kind of dog food. Some will, some won't. Some will even go rotten, such as the wet brands.
  • If you mean dog biscuits or dog chow - if you keep them too long in the box or bag(and they do keep quite a while) - they can get buggy - where the bugs come from heaven knows. But I have had it happen.
  • I keep my dogs dry food and treats(all) in a tupperware container b/c I wasn't sure if it went stale...the wet food he eats goes in the fridge after opening
  • Just a polite request to my fellow Answerbaggers: If you haven't eaten it, you've got little basis to form a substantive opinion. Yes Virginia, dog food does go stale. Especially if you buy it off the back of a truck in some darkened alley from some guy named Guido. No questions asked.
  • Yes, all food stuff whether humans or animals have a shelf life; only some are longer than others.
  • Yes most are dated the same way as human food.
  • Yes it does. Look on the bag for an Exp. date. I gennerally keep my dog kibble inside in the Air conditioner to keep it fresh longer. And store it in an air tight container. My cats won't eat whats left of their food if it is a day old I always have to put in fresh dry kibble and toss out the day old stuff. But with the amount of dog food I have to buy it doesn't really stay around long enough to go bad.
  • It's tempting to buy the really big bags of dry kibble, because everything seems to be cheaper by the ton, but it does go stale. I think (IMHO) the vitamins and nutrients that are added to the food can lose their potency just like vitamins in your medicine cabinet. I always check the expiration date on the bag, just to make sure -- especially if the store has it on "sale".
