Bad idea because they are going to be picked on and beat up until they leave. They will really be given a hard time.

It's about time. People got used to blacks in the military, who as it turned out proved to be exemplary soldiers, so why not women and gays? If they can't handle that, what makes you think they could handle a real problem, like being shelled.

Are we rehashing the same confusion of Clinton's early days? What do I think about this idea? Nothing. I don't care. It's a minor issue of little importance that shouldn't distract the public from the issues that really matter. Less sensationalism and side stories, more focus on issues that matter.

Not much either way. I never undrstood why the "don't ask, don't tell" was supposed to make any one feel better. If one is totally opposed than how can a policy that promoted ignorance make them feel any better. It's not like they are going to be required to were arm bands or carry a sign so leave them alone - if they are doing thier job may be the way to judge.

I guess one's sexual preference determines his or her ability to perform a duty ... if "gays" join the military were asking them to protect and serve, we're not asking them to have sexual relations with the opposite sex, which is the ONLY VALIDATED inadequacy they have based on their sexual orientation alone ... this is like the whole "girls can't play sports" bull crap .... Dara Torres anybody? Jennie Finch?? Serena and Venus Williams?? .... stereotypes ugh ...

Not a good idea. The act of sodomy is a court-martial offense. I'm not saying they might not be good soldiers but keep the sexual preference to themselves.It's hard to imagine a Marine that is gay. It's unnatural.I see a lot of good men and women that have years of experience leaving the service once Obama destroys the military then the country.

I think it could cause problems for openly gay soldiers. As these people will probably be hazzed on a whole new level. And with that it will be hard for the men and women to build the kind of comradary that is needed on the battle field.

I am sure there are already aware of who is gay and who isn't in the military. I think this is just step one of giving gays equal rights. I say whatever, who cares. What are they going to do tell wear a badge telling everyone they are gay?

I don't see any reason why Gays CANNOT serve openly in the Military! If a gay man saved ones life in combat, then you would thank him, no? It wouldn't matter if he/she was gay or not.

This is way past overdue. America is about freedom, equality, and respect for all people. THAT is what our military organizations are supposed to be protecting. THAT is what an American soldier is all about, if he understands his role. THAT is what soldiers should be selected for and trained for. If there is anyone, from a new recruit to a 5 star general -- who does not understand that, and thinks that it is OK to resent or discriminate against gay members of the military, they should receive a summary discharge for failing to understand the values they're supposed to be fighting for. Anyone who cares about justice should be angry that this is something we even have to discuss. America is about killing bigotry off, not institutionalizing it into the very structures designed to defend freedom.

It's a bad idea. I don't care whether gays are in the military. There have always been gays in the military. People just lied about their sexuality if the wanted to get in. However, they shouldn't be allowed to serve openly. It should be kept covert. Allowing them to serve openly will further contribute to the culture of sexual harassment in the military, which is bad for moral.
