  • I think so as far as gaming goes. It is well not worth paying that much money, but I figure Sony is already losing money. I bought the PS3 a couple days ago. The PS3 has a lot more software to choose from and a blue-ray DVD player. I also own the Wii (just barely) and can say though fun, there are too many kiddie games. But then again, this is Nintendo. I do love the new Zelda though. Far as PS3 goes, there will be no shortage and Sony won't be dropping the price anytime soon. If you got the extra cheese laying around, I would say buy one.
  • i feel that the price is far too high. but would definately be worth it when the price goes doen. espesially if you have a PSP because you can wirelessly link the two and play the PS3 game on the PSP. this is amazing as you dont need to set up any cables to the tv.
  • I've had a PS3 since a bit before launch and the more time I've spent with it, the more I like it. The interface is fantastic, online games and downloads from the PlayStation Store are surprisingly good considering it's all free, but the games selection (as is the case with any system near launch) is a little on the weak side. Luckily, software is the one area I think will seriously improve as we move through 2007. Upcoming games like MotorStorm, SingStar, Virtua Fighter 5, Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear Solid 4, Devil May Cry 4, Grand Theft Auto 4 and plenty of others will help make the system far, far more tempting. Whether it's worth the entry price now is going to come down largely to whether or not you're going to use the system's Blu-ray functionality and if you're rocking a decent HDTV setup. Some of the more glaring issues like PlayStation 2 games looking funky have been cleared up recently, and Sony has been remarkably good about slowly but steadily improving little things here and there. That doesn't mean it's perfect. I have a few gripes, though it's more from the standpoint of an existing owner rather than something that should dissuade anyone from picking the system up. -The online play, while cool, still needs some Xbox Live-like features like being able to message friends or invite them to play the game you're playing while in a game. Right now to add friends or message, you have to back all the way out of a game. -The PlayStation Store currently rocks some great prices for things like PS one games, but you can't yet play those on the PS3. There's also just too little in the way of content like game demos, downloadable movies/music/tv stuff (this is Sony after all, they have a media empire). -I'd love to see more formats supported in terms of movie playback. My PS3 could easily become my media center if it supported more video formats. Offering the ability to stream music and movies from my other computers would also be fantastic. So, there you have it. More than my $.02, I'm sure, but all of the complaints I listed above can be fixed with firmware updates, and may not even be a problem in a month or two. If you've got the money to spare and need a way to really show off your HDTV, there's some gorgeous stuff already out on the system and TONS more that will be coming over the course of the year. If you're a little strapped for cash, though, waiting until around the end of the year, when there will be some incredible games out, may be a smarter move. Hope that helps!
  • No, but there are place to get it for free (Google "free ps3" -> first site).
  • in a word yes its just so much more than a console straight from the box
  • Yes, I think so. I am very satisfied with mine and I'm a female that plays all the time !!
  • Absolutely, it is completely worth it, even for the high price of admission. The games are just the start, as incredible as they are. With its games, and its media/networking capabilities, it's the only device I need anymore (especially when hooked up to my big HDTV and surround sound!)
  • the ps3 is worth the money given what goes into a ps3, playstation are making a loss on the sale price but its worth it for the money they make back in games licensing and accesory sales. there is probably alot more to come for the playstation 3 with updates what you buy is not a finnished product and is continually being added to even its already a good system. if you are thinking of buying one but are unsure given the price wait a couple more months and im sure there will be another price drop, you have to remember christmas has just finnished, you have christmas sales then people spending money they recieved as gifts. then towards the end of january is tax time. by the end of march sales will drop (because everyone is broke) and so will the price of the ps3. if they bring out a flash player and divx web player upgrade ill be real happy. that way i can watch all kinds of shows through the web browser from sites like stage 6 and hulu.
  • YES IT is well worth it. i prev. owned the 360 and I just bought my wife the wii. we had the ps3 since the day of release and it is BY FAR the best out of the 3. the intensity level on games is insane. it feels like your in the game. i wish they had manhunt 2 for ps3 though give it the high def. it needs
  • yes it is worth it i didnt want one but my husband got one and its the coolest thing ever get one
  • I have a 360 and a PS3. As far as gaming goes, I play my 360 more often. I haven't even tried gaming online with the PS3 actually. Mostly because all my buddies have 360 and not PS3. I do use the PS3 as my DVD and BluRay player though. I love being able to watch movies in HD. Not to mention, if you are using HDMI, you can upscale your old DVDs to a higher resolution. I would say get one if you have cash lying around. But if you want it for games, wait until a few games you really want come out... Like MGS4
  • I bought my boyfriend one for Christmas and honestly I don't see anything special about it! LOL
  • I say that it's a long term investment. Because of its sheer power there are lots of possibilities for a whole range of games! So, in the future, it will be... Well, ... Well, ... Well, ... Well, ... Worth it!
  • well yeah.... if you want to spend some more cash on it once you get it.... you need to be a hardcore gamer if you want one if your not forget about it
  • deff worth it! trust me, all the features will blow you away! and all the online stuff and most of the extra content is absolutly free, unlike X box. trust me, it will be worth it, you just gotta know which games to get. i suggest COD4(especially for the online play), assassins creed, oblivion, resistance, and uncharted. motorstorm is pretty fun too.
  • I sure hope so! My paycheck depends on it!
  • I got my ps3 on the launch day, it is very fun to play, but i admit the cost is abit high. The wii is also fun to play, but not on your own, with your family i would say its alot funner, whereas with the ps3, you can play high def gaming on your own with a range of playing options. The internet is free unlike the xbox360, and plus you get a blue ray player included. I personally think it is worth it, especially in the long run.
  • its def worth it. I had a x360 and it crapped out on me 4 times. I technically paid more for the x360 to have the hd-Dvd drive and the system and now it doesn't work and hddvd isn't going to make it. the ps3 which I bought for my bf is twice as fast on rendering, loading and also it hasn't given me any problems yet(knock on wood). The woo is nice but the games can get old quick and the graphics are like dreamcast quality. I def say ps3 is worth the price.
  • It's odd that I find this question now. I just got back from the store where I bought one. The clerk at Best Buy told me that with a download, my 40Gb PS3 will play all my PS2 games. But I'm having trouble finding that download on the site. I don't want to open it yet in case that turns out to be false. I'll let you know in a couple of days when I hear back from Sony the real scoop on backwards compatibility.
  • I got my husband a PS3 two weeks ago for his birthday, and he's been playing it almost non-stop since then. So, I guess it's worth it! The only thing I like about it is that we can play blu-ray dvds on it. I think the wii is more fun to play, but I'm not that into games.
  • YES ITS WORTH IT...... i you want epicness and awesomness in one.. epicwesomness(?) but yeah its worth it 200%
  • definitly worth it
  • Hey gotta tell ya I shelled out full whack for the 60GB months ago and I say wait coz there just aint enough games right now. Until those guys at Sony up it a gear I'd hold off ya aint missin much. Say around 29th April 2008 with GTA IV bein released might be a gud time. :-)
  • It is most definately worth every penny, as long as you own or are planning to purchase an HDTV in the near future. You will also need to make sure that you purchase an HDMI cable for optimum performance with your PS3/Blu-ray player.
  • Its extremely worth it, considering that a few reputable places mention the PS3 is "the only Blu-Ray player worth buying right now" That is because of its upgradable firm ware for all the older/newer blurays coming out. The graphics are stunning, and its just a fantastic system. Hooray Sony! I LOVE MINE!
  • Definitely! I have the 80G, and am very pleased with the performance. If you have PS2 games, almost all the versions of the PS3, minus the 40G, are backwards compatible, so you can play your PS2 games on your PS3. It will fully pay for itself when SOCOM "Confrontation" comes out in September. I've got high hopes for that game, as I have played SOCOM since SOCOM 1 came out. It has already partially paid for itself by immensely improving the picture quality of my game. It's so cool to play SOCOM online in HD.
  • Worth it and then some!!! You cant go wrong with this next gen console, BD, entertainment system. Thee number video gaming console, Thee one and only Blue-Ray Drive, a sexy looking entertainment system that when you have vistors will comment on it's stunning design. 3in1 Beauty!!
  • DUH of course its worth it
  • Definatly as far as a games consol goes it's got much more grunt than the others wich give a better gaming experience. I also find the controls for most of the games to be quite easy and fluid to use as well. But the best thing about the PS3 is the Playstation Network wich unlike Xboxlive is free and the system updates that sony provide constantly, alow you to play nearly every format of video or music file on your PS3 and if the one you want is't available yet it's just a matter of time till it is.
  • Hell yeah!!! Call of duty 4 is worth it on its own!
  • yes. Free online. Built in wireless connection, not to mention the amazingly beautiful Blu Ray!
  • Yes, i have a PS3 and it has never had a problem. It makes the XBOX 360 look like a dumb system. The PS3 is awesome also because of the free internet hookup to the Playstation Network.
  • Right now most of the games that are out for both Ps3 and 360 run better on the 360. But the games made for the ps3 look a little better and run smoother than the games made only for the 360. Plus the internet is free with the ps3. Id say its worth it. If been happy with it at least.
  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT HAS NO GOOD GAMES i wish i would have thought about it b 4 i bought it o sure it has blue ray yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy thats all everything else XBOX 360 has and more xbox 360 you can listen to ur music when your playing games plug in ur mp3 and listen to it get good demos and also has alot more clasic games like halo (not saying its good or bad) gears of war 1 & 2 and just lots more games If you are thinking of buying a PS3 dont its very expensive and is a waste of money buy a 360 the best 360 you can get is still less than the worst PS3 you can get which rounds out to 400$ at best buy
  • I waited to get one because they were really expensive, but now that I finally have it, I love it. I even bought a new TV so I could maximize the console's potential.
  • i got the 60gb one as soon as i could!?? best desicion i ever made. i was sceptical about wat i was getting over the xbox 360 by spending that much more. but coupled with a massive HD tv some bluray disks and some intense gaming its well worth it. plus internet and online gaming is free. not on xbox! PS all the way baby!
  • Excusse my French but its well fuking worth it...its 10 times better thank Playstation 2, graphics and gaming 10 times better mate!!!
  • yes i think is worth it because the online is free ps3 home is on there they had some pronlem but its getting there
  • oh yeah.
  • If you're a serious video gamer and have a LOT of money to burn, then heck yeah. But if you're only mildly into video games then it's probably not worth your time. If however you're in between, then you then you really should get one (I recommend a 40 to 60 Gigabyte PS3, they're really decent and they can play PS1 and PS2 games if you're not looking to buy PS3 games, not to mention the fact that it has incredible internet capabilities).
  • I love my PS3. If you're on the fence about buying one, DO IT!
  • The PS3, especially at this juncture, is well worth the price. A 120 GB Slim for $299. Microsoft is cutting prices like crazy trying to keep up with the sales of PS3. They cannot change the fact that wireless and Blu-Ray is included, though. Sony also has more exclusive releases that will be sure to win over plenty more gamers. I think now is a great time to purchase one, especially with Uncharted 2 coming out.
  • i dont intend to say:oh,now that you don't have one, what a bad luck... no!if you buy it and have HD cable too,you can have a good time by it.
