  • We adopted ours from the Humane society, which puts the chips in as part of the adoption process. However, they put it in wrong, and it broke thru the skin a couple of months later, so we had it removed. She never gets out of the house or back yard now, so I'm hoping she doesn't escape. I just didn't want to take a chance on re-installing it. But, I do think they are an excellent idea ... ours was just botched.
  • Two of my four dogs are microchipped. One of them was already microchipped when we bought her from an animal shelter, and the other one is a constant runaway, so the last time we picked her up at the pound we got her chipped and it cost $25. I presume the next time she runs away they will just call us, instead of us having to scope out all the nearby pounds to find her, as she always seems to get out of her collar with her license # on it.
