I prefer a place where I don't have to use any stairs.

when my wife and i first moved in together, we had a middle floor apartment(upstairs). that way if someone were to have the desire to intrude,our apartment probably wouldnt be the first choice.also if there was a fire we could easily jump out(then we got married,she got pregnant and we got a house) so middle upstairs but if you can help it, dont even live in an apartment.

If it was in a apartment like stated in your question? I think I'd take the downstairs. If it was a old farm house like I am in here now at this moment. I'd pick the upstairs at night, just do to the wonderful view & cool clean breeze.
