In fifth grade, I triumphed in the Christmas play with my portrayal of a member of a group of boys who visited the Holy Land. I remember my first line which was also the highly expository first line of the play: "I sure am glad we came to the Holy Land for our Christmas vacation!" The critics raved: "Fred's performance and the entire play got me out of class. I'm forever grateful!" "Seeing Fred dressed as a woman has me questioning my sexual orientation and I'm only nine. BRAVO!" "Before I saw Fred act, I wanted my mommy. Now I want him....to have a Tony!"

She let us give people parts (we had to make parts for everyone in the class, even if they were just "townspeople" milling about) and she gave us class time to rehearse and was setting something up with the principal so we could perform it for the school.
