  • The first ongoing music scene assigned the "punk" label appeared in New York in 1974-1976, and centered around bands playing regularly at the clubs Max's Kansas City[16] and CBGB,[26] including The Ramones, Television, Blondie, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, The Voidoids, and Talking Heads. The scene had been preceded by a nascent underground rock movement at the Mercer Arts Center, which had formed around from the demise of The Velvet Underground. Beginning in 1971, the Mercer scene featured the New York Dolls and Suicide, though it came to an abrupt end in 1973, when the building collapsed.[27] The "punk" title was applied to these groups by early 1976, when Punk Magazine first appeared, featuring these bands alongside articles on some of the immediate role models for the new groups, such as Lou Reed and Patti Smith (who were the cover subjects of the first and second issues, respectively). At the same time, a less celebrated, but influential, scene had appeared in Ohio, comprising The Electric Eels, Devo, and Rocket from the Tombs (who in 1975 split into Pere Ubu and The Dead Boys)... • In my opinion, discarding the Velvet Underground, Tonight's the Night by Neil Young. Released in 1975.
  • Well, there was "Harry" by Janis Joplin. You could consider that Punk or Lo-fi. It was way back in the 60's!
  • In my opinion, the first real "punk" song was "Anarchy in the UK" by The Sex Pistols. The first line Johnny Rotten ever wrote for The Sex Pistols was "I am an antichrist" in 1973. They were hailed by the New Musical Express Magazine in London as one of the first ever "punk rock" bands. Other band had formed at around that time, the New York Dolls, The Clash, The Ramones, but the Sex Pistols were the first real band to be noticed as "punk rock".
  • Many bands & music gurus believe (and I agree) (I'm) Stranded by The Saints (1976) to be the first true punk song!
  • The Fugs - Kill For Peace
  • "The Next Big Thing" The Dictators
  • Kick Out The Jams - Mc5S around 1969
  • Surfin' bird by The Trashmen
