There was a report on the radio a few years ago which my wife now holds dearly to and is convinced is a great ease for tickly coughs. Some scientists discovered chocolate is as good as proprity cough medicines.

Cough is a symptom of something else. Cough syrups, cough drops etc all are treating a symptom, not the cause.

You need to find out what is causing the cough then treat that (if possible).

Coughs come from two (basic) sources. The Lungs and the throat.

If it is the lungs then stopping the cough could lead to more harm. Coughing helps to clear the lungs.

If it is the throat then coughing could be irritating the cause of the throat cough leading to more coughing.

Knowing why we have a cough will help to determine if treating the cough is a "good" move or not.

but it works a treat. Theres a night time version and a day time version (the night tastes worse)but last time I had a cough it cleared it up so much.
And this time, I have a cough and Covonia is the only thing keeping me from going mental.
