I had a friend who worked for McDonald's packaging. She said they sprayed the fries with sugar water before the fries were frozen. This is, of course, hearsay. Make of it what you will.

The caramelizing makes the fries stay drier(caramel gets very hot)- I like the dry taste instead of mushy french fries.

I'd heard they add sugar and was wondering if they were still doing it.

Have you seen "Supersize Me" yet?

A lot of the reason people think Mcdonalds fries (and similar foods) taste good is because of the cocktail of chemicals and hormones in them- a lot of these can actually be addictive if consumed regularly, so the pleasure you feel in consuming them is similar to the pleasure of a cigarette to a smoker. This is also why people who were never fed Mcdonalds as a kid (and thus never built up the dependency) tend to think fast food is disgusting when they finally try it.

I wasn't fed it as a kid, but now I love it. What the heck's wrong with me? Wish I hated it!

I think it is a combo of the fat it is fried in the and the beef flavour they use. They do taste pretty good in small doses, on the rare ocassion that they are cooked well.

It's because of the type of oil they use. Different types of oils have different tastes on the food you fry them in. The worse (health effects) an oil is for you, the better the food tastes.

I forget the type they use, but supposedly they were supposed to switch to a more healty oil awhile back? It all had to do with the trans-fat & what-not.

make donalds fries are good unless u stop eating them for about a year then if eat them again they will give you diaria and they will not taste as good the reason for this is because it takes a long time to get all of the chemicals out of your bodie and when done so your bodie can not handle the chemicals because you are not amooned to it.

Vegetable oil, actually. I used to work with that crap. And I think their fries are awful.
