The one key I have never used is the " Any " key.

You know.....Press any key to continue.

I can't seem to find the " Any " key on my keyboard.

I'll bet it was a DOS thing.

Insert, pause/break and scroll lock.

Also the weird stuff on the side that I have no idea what they are for. There is a quarter moon, a plus sign, a world with a circle around it, an envelope, a magnifing glass and a circle with a question mark inside.

World with circle=world wide web
circle with question mark=help
envelope=email
magnifying glass=zoom
quarter moon puts the computer into sleep mode

haha, funny :)

Coders use these alot. Haven't seen a great use for scroll lock (what with the greater functionality of a mouse)
1) pause/break will interupt code execution
2) insert will allow you to overtype text

Now I have a key called 'fn' - I hesitate to ask what it is - 'function' maybe, but then I would have to learn all the combinations, and I don't have time for that, I am already 58. Well, tomorrow, I will be 58.

Sleep/Power. I always use either the case power button or the start/shutdown sequence.

The right cntr button, I always use the one on the left. Also the Ø, Å and Æ buttons as I very rarely have to type Norwegian.

Avatar Danc1990 Feb, 06 2009 at 01:22 PM
Actually in XP there is a use for the right ctrl button.
If a specific registry edit is made, and then the user holds down the right ctrl key, and tapps scroll lock twice it will manually invoke a blue screen of death.
Avatar Pizzabotha May, 20 2009 at 07:52 AM
what edit? Want to do it :)

Alt+home = home page, way faster than mouse, specially if yu just pressed ctrl+t for a new tab
Avatar chrisseanhayes May, 28 2009 at 10:28 AM
The 'Home' key is really helpful. Especially if you work with text a lot. Try these:
home - for going to the beginning of the line
ctrl-home - for going to the beginning of a document
ctrl-shift-home - for copying everything from where you are to the beginning of a document
ctrl-shift-end - (much more useful) for copying everything from where you are to the very end of a document

Same here. Page buttons might be handy if you didn't have a mouse wheel.

Try 'Tab' when filling out a form online. You'll start to love it.
