Depends why it's slow, it might be the speed of the processor you've got.

I find a clean install of the software speeds mine back up.

Yes, I had more memory put into mine.
Is your computer slower than it used to be or is it just that his is now faster and yours now appears slower?
If yours has slowed down a clean install would probably cure it otherwise you would need to do what your boyfriend has done to his.

Get rid of that shitty Norton or McAffee software that comes with most pc's, try going to run then msconfig and then unchecking unneeded services that run when you boot up, and don't run too many things at once. If none of that helps or applies then you probably should either reinstall or upgrade. Good luck

Symantec is responsible for a lot of poor performance. Get rid of that pig if you have it!

There are many ways to make your computer such as getting a registry cleaner, defragmenting your hard drive, and I will tell you how to increase startup time.
1.in windows, click the windows sign or "start" all the way on the bottom-left.
2.go to run. in windows vista, skip this step.
3. now type msconfig.
4. go to startup
5.uncheck as much stuff you dont need as possible or dont want.
6.restart your computer.

or, you can try the services

go repeat steps 1 and 2.
now type "services.msc"

if you dont have a tablet computer, which means if u have a desktop or laptop, you can disable "tablet pc input service"
and look online for more.
good luck with speeding up your computer.

a good way that actually costs money is getting another RAM chip. a cheap one is like 75 bucks and can cost alot more. most motherboards allow another ram chip. so, just open up your desktop, get the extra ram chip, and slide it into a long slot with two tabs on each end. then secure it by pushing the tabs together.

Other than the normal disc cleaning and de-fragmenting, an operating system often gradually becomes corrupt over time. If you haven't reinstalled your operating system within one to two years, I would start there.

After that, I would add RAM to 2 Gigs., or if your computer can't use that much, the maximum it can.

If you have the option, run XP instead of RAM hog Vista! XP runs well on 1 Gig, and Vista needs 2 Gigs.

Some sure-fire ways:

* Get a faster CPU
* Get the most RAM your OS supports (of the fastest type your motherboard supports).
* Get faster HDDs (like the WDD Raptors)
* Get a faster GPU
* If you motherboard is old, get a new motherboard that supports modern components.
