What does a negative number minus a negative number equal?

    Now this is different from a previous recent question. It depends on the numbers. The result can be a positive or negative number.

    For example:
    -5 - -8 = 3
    -8 - -3 = -5

    Depends on the actual numbers. Subtracting a negative number is like a double negative, it cancels out:

    [-8 - (-2)= -6] can really be said [-8 + 2 = -6]

    It really depends on what the starting number is, the answer may be positive or negative.

    assume the number as -2
    if the other number is also negative say -4
    -2-(-4)=2
    if the other number is a positive number say 4
    -2-4=-6
