Help answer this question below.
I actually don't see why you should always be able to tell someone that they shouldn't smoke. If they're in a location where it is not allowed or is stuffy or if you are really sensitive to smoke, then i would think that it would be reasonable to ask them to stop.
What does smoking have to do with eating anyway?
Ok honestly i've never seen anybody do that but, smoking is disgusting for all people standing nearby. It's not for their personal health, it's an infringment on other peoples rights.
If overweight people want to eat junk food then it shouldn't bother anyone else.
While, it is certainly bad for someone who's overweight to overeat, there's a distinct difference between asking someone NOT to smoke versus overeating.
Someone's smoking affects everyone around them. It has been proven that second-hand smoke can and does lead to health-risks such as lung cancer, etc.; whereas, overeating doesn't directly lead to someone else having diabetes, heart attacks, and other health-related problems associated with overeating.
I've never heard of anyone dying vicariously from being surrounded by too much food or overweight people, who are in the process of overating.
Therefore, it is only acceptable to tell someone that their overeating is a bad idea, should only occur when it's a friend, or relative.
Otherwise, you have no right telling a complete stranger that they shouldn't be overeating, even though it is certainly true that overeating has a myriad of health-related risks, too!
Soon I hope!
But a fat person eating fast food dosn,t really effect anyone else, whereas smoking does.
That's mean on so many levels, but yet still so funny.
I'd say it will become acceptable in about 3 years. So I have three more years of seconds! :)
Did you get this question from Super-size Me? Pretty good movie.
It is and i enjoy doing so everyday.
Ohhh but we already do...Overweight people are more frequently seen as being lazy, and unable to practice control. They are more frequently passed over for more prime job positions and raises to match. Fat children are picked on often and with little mercy in school...so it starts young and helps form low self esteem for future over eating projects.
Commercially, they are (more were, than are now a days since the fashion industry has figured out that the over weight do, in reality, shop and need clothes) presented with designs that wouldn't improve the fashion sense of a bovine, limited selections, fabrics that are synthetic...remember polyester as it first was...a million years ago? Even the majority of shoes and fashion or practical boots do not fit a fairly hefty woman.
The BIG and TALL men's shops exist and always have but the prices you pay there will not excite you a great deal of the time...you pay more for those larger women's sizes as well...$10 to $20 to $35 more!
Both conditions are based upon bad habits, both have roots in emotional areas (and with smoking there is an actual chemical addition to sweeten the pot) that can be bloody hard to weed out of a person's mental/emotional hook...food is more insidious in some ways because it IS supposed to be a good thing, a nurturing thing, a fun activity to share with friends and loved ones. But, if it becomes an addiction issue...then you are dealing with a "drug" much as cigarettes become.
