Before the death of Ronald Reagan, the U. S. had five living past presidents -- Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush 41, and Clinton. Has there ever been another time when this many presidents were alive at the same time?

    No.

    The previous record was four living past presidents during the Buchanan Administration of 1857-1861, in which former presdients Van Buren, Tyler, Fillmore, and Pierce were still living. By the Grant Administration of 1869-1877, there would be no living past presidents, for the first time since John Adams.
