I like the toaster oven, personally. Its just more versatile, I can use it for many more things than just toasting bread.

I have a toaster oven and the cool thing about it is not only can you make some good toast but you can also put in biscuits, pop tarts, warm up pizza so you don't have to turn on your big oven. It's great

A toaster oven will be a bit more time consuming to clean & toast bread in - but it is more versatile - you can have cheese on toast, or toasted sandwiches, or even bake small dishes in it.
I imagine a regular toaster would be cheaper though.

I vote for the toaster oven, though I would caution you on getting a toaster oven/microwave combo which we once bought. It does not toast too well, nor does it micro too well. But I did hear that the toaster oven hairdryer combos are quite good (just kidding)

You want to buy a toaster if all you do is toast sliced bread and bagels, it does do a superior job in evenly toasting.

Buy a toaster oven if you are short on space, they are extremely versatile. The best ones I have come across are the convection toaster ovens. When it's hot out we even put ours outside on a TV tray so it doesn't heat up the house!

I'm with the rest. A toaster-oven is really nice in the summertime when you have a small baking job to do and don't want to heat up the kitchen (and your A/C bill).

If you just use it for toast and nothing else, though, a toaster-oven's toast isn't quite as attractive as a conventional toaster's is. So, just weigh the pluses and minuses as to what you plan to use it for.
