Strawberries have been used for centuries to whiten teeth!

    INGREDIENTS
    3-6 ripe strawberries
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 teaspoon cream of tartar
    1 cup water

    1. Puree the berries in a blender and pour into a small dish.
    2. Using a cosmetic brush or your toothbrush, paint the strawberry paste on your teeth and let sit on
    teeth for 5 minutes.
    3. Mix 1 teaspoon of the baking soda and the cream of tartar into the cup of water. Swish this mixture
    around in your mouth.
    4. Brush your teeth with the teaspoon of plain baking soda.
    5. Rinse with cool, clear water.

    Urine.

Oh don't give me that look or that down rating:

In the past many things were tried to whiten teeth, the "safest" "natural" whitener was urine.

http://www.thehistoryof.net/the-history-of-teeth-whitening.html scroll down a bit to Teeth whitening starts with toothpaste where it says:

"...the Romans’ toothpaste was. It was made from human urine!....but modern dentists recognized that it was the ammonia that cleaned the teeth, and they still use that."

Acids (like citric acid or lemons) is bad for your teeth, they will not only whiten your teeth they also strip fine layers of the enamel and once the enamel is compromised you set yourself up for tooth decay.

The OTC strips and whiteners work well and are safe (when used as instructions say). And are perhaps far better and easier on the stomach than the "natural" methods used which included urine, wine vinegar (Which is stronger than your cooking vinegar) and other interesting mixtures of insect parts, bird innards, and the like.

This works well and has the added benefit of "reviving" a person's energy. It also has the benefit of being natural and doesn't put artificial chemicals into the body's system.

Take a lime (preferably organic) and start peeling it with a knife leaving most of the rind. Usually, a half lime is best...use the other half a few days later. Slice your half a lime into bite size bits, chew and eat. The nutritious rind along with the fruit will give you an added boost and is good for the body. Then lightly brush your teeth with baking soda. This will help neutralize the acid in your mouth. Often, if you follow with a teaspoon of olive oil or an oil rich in omega fatty acids it will help if you have sensitive teeth. This will also help to naturally control body orders and you can imagine how good it is for keeping clean your digestive system. The vitamin C type nutrients are very good towards promoting healthy gums if done on a regular basis and could probably help against bad breath or gum ailments.

Most people make a face when they think of eating a lime, but the thought is worse than the bite.

Lucas has a good point regarding this as a routine.

When I had braces in, there was this powdry white substance they asked me to use for a few weeks before I had my braces put on and ocassionally during. A dentist should have his, and it works great.

To make a paste, mix two or three teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide and two teaspoons of baking soda together. Place the mixture in a small bowl. The thickness of the paste should be consistent as the typical thickness of toothpaste. For extra taste, a bit of flavorful mint or just a little scoop of toothpaste can be combined with the home-made paste.

Use a toothbrush and leave the mixture on your teeth for at a couple of minutes. You should avoid swallowing the paste. If this happens, just drink lots of water

You need to brush again using usual toothpaste to rid off the bitter taste of the hydrogen peroxide. Smokers, coffee drinkers and even grandparents may use this remedy to minimize the heavy stain on their teeth.

you should only brush your teeth with this paste once a week, no more than that

Once a week, I use 'cream of tartar' as my tooth powder. I brush for about two minutes, and then I rinse, rinse, rinse, my mouth out several times and use my clean toothbrush again to remove and traces of the powder in my mouth because it is an acid and it can be harmful to enamel if left on it. You should instantly see results. Just be sure not to do this more than once per week.

An added benefit is that if you have a white coated tongue, that coating just rolls off the tongue, leaving it nice and pink!

Using actual baking soda with your tooth paste can help quite a bit and it is probably the least expensive way to do it. You can of course by bleaching kits at about any grocery/drug store, but they can be expensive.

Everyone wants a bright smile, but coffee, tea, soft drinks, smoking and even some medicines can take their toll on teeth. To get them white again, you can go to a dentist and pay for professional whitening, or you can save some money by using things you probably have around your house.

    Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is known for cleaning skin abrasions, but it can also help bleach your teeth. Swish a couple of tablespoons in your mouth for a minute or two. Spit it out and rinse with clear water. To get rid of the taste, brush with a mint-flavored toothpaste.

    Baking Soda
Pour some baking soda into a small cup or the palm of your hand. Dip a wet toothbrush into it and brush your teeth. Rinse with mouthwash or brush your teeth with mint-flavored toothpaste afterward.

    Fresh Strawberries
Crush strawberries in a small cup or bowl. Put the strawberry paste on a toothbrush and brush your teeth as you would with toothpaste. Afterward, brush your teeth with toothpaste to remove the natural sugar from the strawberries.

    Wood Ash
Apply hard wood ash to a wet toothbrush or mix it with toothpaste. The potassium hydroxide in the wood ash will bleach your teeth. However, this is a very abrasive substance that shouldn't be used too often because it will erode the enamel on your teeth. Rinse your mouth, then brush with non-abrasive toothpaste.

    Combinations
Combine any two of the above for an even stronger whitener. Don't forget to brush your teeth with toothpaste after you whiten, and don't overdo the whitening treatments or you might wear away the enamel off your teeth, making them more prone to cavities.

    Avoid
Do not brush your teeth with lemon juice or the juice of any other citrus fruit. The acid will remove the calcium from your teeth.

lemons, limes and vinegar are all natural whiteners ...vinegar is also a natural softner and disinfectant...so i like a mixture of vinegar and and a tad of baking soda...but please never scrub your teeth or gums, gently....lemons and limes have a lot of acid content can eat away enamel and teeth! but so can rigourous brushing with baking soda...

buy a kit containing hydrogen peroxide off the internet, it's look of the draw wether or not it works, but if you do find one it will be worth it in the long run, but whitening toothpaste works well if your teeth are just stained from coffee drinking, if it is severe discolouration though try a DIY kit or go to a cosmetic dentist, try the yellow pages.
    i hope this helps.
