When a batter for the Home Team hits a home run in the 9th inning or later and that homerun scores the 'go ahead' run causing the home team to win (home team gets to bat last or gets the last chance). Put another way, if the home team is not already winning by the 9th inning and a player hits a homerun that scores the 'go ahead' run, the game is over thus the team 'walks off' the field since no more at bats are needed.
