Personally, I belive that in spellwork, you get in what you put out. Buying a ziplock bag of supplies and saying someone elses chants isn't going to be meaningful, or effective.

I think it is a way for people to make a quick buck of newbies, or bunnies that don't know any better or are too lazy to do the workings themselves.

For those too lazy, they get what they deserve, unsuccessful workings, but for the newbies, it is exploitative.

I agree that there are better means with which to cast magick. That overall effort and research one puts in to a spell adds to it's potency. From researching needed components, to going to the store to purchase these objects--you are raising energy toward your spell.

However, I also see that these 'spell kits' are useful for those who are new to the Craft--mainly the young who do not have the money or means to devote to drawn out component searches. I think that they are useful for developing a base understanding of needed components and the flow of magick. I don't think the spell's power will be negated if the person can attain only these kits for their spells--though long term I would imagine the caster expecting more of themselves and the universe dulling the energies from these kits over time when the person becomes more advanced.

In short, I'm sure they will work--just not sure for how long--and it is an individualistic basis.

I would encourage others who are new to the Craft to skip the 'spell kits' and take the time to think out and intuit their own components--but if a kit would benefit you in learning, then go for it.

I think it's the easy/lazy way out. The results, if there are any, will coincide with the effort put in. Do you own spells/charge your own candles and reap the rewards. It's a case of 'you get what you pay for' in a way.

A creative gimmick. People like entertainment in a prepackaged, ready-to-go box. I don't know if I want to do spells, personally, but I am sure we will all be seeing this at Borders, Books, and Music sometime soon :-)

Reminds me of Barnum's maxim: there's a sucker born every minute. You don't need to speak Latin to cast spells, either!

    Cannabis its just a plant

Sounds handy, if I were into that sorta deal.

I say more power to them as long as they're not harming anyone else...

I just watched a show on "the secret lives of women" about the occult. They tried to make it seem like they're not out there to hurt anyone, which is probably for the most part true but one lady said towards the end that she had caused one person to commit suicide and another to end up in jail because of the spells she cast.

I have mixed feelings about them, yet I do have a joyful association with them as well.

I prefer and believe in the value of doing my own work.

When I came out of the broom closet so to speak (not sure I was really in one by comparison to many) all of my friends and relatives would buy these for me as well as "spell" books (yes from Barns and Nobel) on various occasions. So I joyfully accept each and everyone of them with joy, it was their way of showing that they accepted and supported me.

They are all in in my ritual space as reminders to myself of how fortunate and blessed I am to be surrounded and supported by the ones who are in my life.
