    Since duplicate questions are sometimes hard to define, we have a rather lenient policy on duplicates. Questions that deal with purely factual information are often duplicated and easy to spot. More difficult are those questions that are subjective, and that require context to understand the questioner's situation.

    For example, if one person asks, "Where can I find a fuse system diagram for a 1996 Toyota Tercel?" and another asks, "Where can I find a fuse system diagram for a 1997 Toyota Tercel?", both questions will be approved since they are seeking information about 2 different years of the same vehicle. Even though the answer will probably be the same, it's not something we can know for certain. Also, when the same basic question (Should I stay with my cheating significant other?) has additional detail (age, relationship history) that distinguishes it from similar questions, the new question should not be considered a duplicate. On the other hand, if someone has asked, "How can I train my dog to stay off my couch?" and a new question is submitted that reads "How can I keep my dog off my couch?", the second question should be flagged as a duplicate, because each question is asking for the exact same information. Also consider that any answers submitted to a question that is later identified as a duplicate will be appended to the original version of the question. Often, reading these answers can help you decide if the questions are the same or different.

    When there is an uncertainty of its proper category.
    ------
    For example, some questions about Toyota could be,
    more or less,
    equally construed as an automotive question,
    a financial question,
    a labor question,
    an environmental question,
    or a question about Japan;
    possibly all at once.
