Great question! Europe is great, but don't forget to check out all you can in Belgium. It's a small but very beautiful country! I've seen Brussels, Brugge, and Oostende mentioned, but I haven't seen anyone mention Ghent or Leuven, and sadly no one has mentioned the Belgian Ardennes. It's sooooooooooo beautiful there and if you have a car you can travel all the back roads and see beautiful castles and mountains and towns. (Check out the small towns of La-Roche and Durbuy). Also, Bastogne is a great city to check out. In the province of Limburg, where I live, there is Tongeren, with ancient Roman walls still standing and the fruit farms and orchards all around Sint-Truiden. Take a a couple of those 10 days and see Belgium thoroughly. You won't be disappointed.
Be sure to visit the channel port of Ostend.....a good mixture of old and new.
And the highlight of Belgium must be Bruges a city of canals,"The Venice of the North" absolutely beautiful.
Enjoy yourself.

Ostende and Brugges should be high on your list and in Brussels search out The Grand Place. Manneken Pis, Belgian Comic Strip Museum, Royal Palace and Royal Park, and the Musical Instruments Museum.
I would recommend (if you want a leisurely drive through the countryside) driving beside the Rhine river near the town of Rudesheim, Germany. There's a castle at almost every turn of the river. Beautiful!
If you get an opportunity to visit Amsterdam be sure to pay a visit. I spent about 10 days there some years ago and wish I could have spent more. The canals, many museums(at least 50) are wonderful.

Great - I made note of all your suggestions. Have checked out several tour books but have much more faith in what people offer up. Thanks
