There's a picture I'm submitting with this text. It's of a pork pie hat.
I'm curious about the association with gangsters. I know the hat was big with jazz musicians, ska musicians.
Is it possible that you're thinking of fedoras? I'm uploading a pic of one of those -- when I think of American gangsters in the 1930s, that's usually the kind of hat I see them wearing.
If these pics upload the way I think they will, the pork pie will have a black background, the fedora will have a white background.

Its a hat made out of pork pies, many 'differnt' people like to use it as a sex toy and eat the hat while the other person is wearing it (on their head)!

You're reading What is a PORK PIE hat? Why is it associated with gangsters?
Comments
A few novels I've read make a New Jersey, New York connection. The hat on the left seems familiar, put on a gold chain, a wife-beater t-shirt and black leather sport coat and you have the uniform.
Thanks. points.

I appreciate the kindness. I could certainly think of crazier things than the pork pie being worn in gangs or by gangsters. I may be biased because a detective on the show "Homocide: Life on the Streets" wore one. It was one of my favorite shows so I can't see anyone who might do something illegal wearing one!
