  • Something that you can sing and sound good when singing it. How about "Happy Birthday?"
  • the monster mash.........
  • How about a 'talking' song. They use this type of song for people who do not have great voices. You are talking in rhythm instead of really singing. An example is Rex Harrison as Professor Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady or Lee Marvin in Paint your Wagon.
  • figure out what your voice is (alto, tenor, soprano, bass) and start there. that'll help you narrow down your choices of songs. "happy birthday" is always an option but since it's a theatre class they may want you to choose something from a musical. "i've got no strings" is a song from pinnochio and that's relatively easy. do you have a favorite musical? try starting there as well. you wanna pick something you enjoy and can pull off. there's also something called sing-speak, where you speak the song more than you sing...you could see if you can get away with that. there are some great songs from "you're a good man, charlie brown". snoopy sings a song called "supertime" that's pretty fun.
  • Since you can't sing, how about one that has no words?
  • "Modern Major General" from Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance" is a personal favourite of mine. It's easier than it sounds, and the lyrics are great!
  • My Way. Tell them if they laugh, Frank's boys will visit them in their sleep.
  • Make it a dramatic comedy if you can't really sing. This way they will all laugh with you and not at you, and your performance will make you a legend among your peers for many years to come. I'm thinking an Elvis song, with dance moves and whatnot.
  • Anything by "Thin Lizzy." That guy basically talked his way through the lyrics -- and it worked GREAT!!!
  • Music Man - Harold Hill - "Trouble" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s60hOgqLFGg
  • I'm actually in the same perdicament and I kinda have a deep voice, any suggestions?
  • If you're a girl, sing "These Boots Were Made For Walkin'" by Nancy Sinatra. It's kinda talk/sing.
  • Rappers delight Check it out to the hip hop to the hebby to the hebby to the hip hip hop ya don't stopin to the ...
  • You could do what most folks who can't sing do...rap! LOL! Or, you could "sing" like Bill Murray used to on SNL...
  • Send in the Clowns... Admit it, you know the words. It was written for a woman who cannot sing, and despite Judy Collins and Barbara's best intentions, it sounds better when spoken than sung.
  • Adelaide's Lament - was done on Streisand's The Broadway album many years ago. I did it for an audition in high school. I can't carry a tune in a bucket - but it showed off my acting and creativity. Got the part...so there you go. Was fun to do, even though I was really nervous.
  • You'll want to stick with a song from a musical- it's easier to act it. I have the same problem as you and I have a slightly lower voice for a girl- I'm not a soprano by any means and I don't have much range. I recommend, "Paris Original" from How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, or anything Rosemary sings in that musical. Also, Amazing Mayzie songs from Seussical are fun. The one that starts, "I was down in Fort Worth, just a girl on the wing..." that's fun, easy to sing, and provides different levels to act.
  • Sing a song meant for bad singers! Yes there are quite a few of them. One is: "Tomorrow" from Annie
  • "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" from My Fair Lady (or pretty much any other song that Rex Harrison has ever "sung," or rather "spoken in perfect rhythm")
