Can I use Action Replay Max with PS1 games?

My action replay for ps2 gets to the loading sceen and dosn't load, what can i do to fix this.
i've tryed cleaning it and still didn't work

Can an old version of action replay work with newer games? I mean, like, can an action replay for amecube( i bought one)work with a game that comes out say... 2 yrs later after that AR came out, like ultimate spiderman, even if i dont have a USB thing?

My Action Replay MAX is not working for my PS2, it is saying either disc read error or please insert disc. What can I do to fix this problem?

Are action replay codes permanent?
If I save my game after using one, will it still be there?
I used a health cheat on pokemon and I don't want to save if I know it's going to be permanent.
