  • A restraining order is a court order given to a person in order to keep that individual away from something or someone, or from hurting someone or something. Since all injunctions are sentenced verbally and then recorded, I guess it could be considered both. The bottom line is, if a judge tells you to stay away and you refuse, you're going to suffer the consequences in either jail-time or a hefty fine.
