I'm puzzled by this Q. Not that the computer made a noise, shut down and won't restart. No, what puzzles me is what follows: What did you have tested, and where? Who tested what? Did someone check the power supply only for output? Was this just a straight electronics check of that one component by an electrician or someone acting in that capacity? Or did you take the whole computer to a qualified / competent / honest repair tech who *then* looked only at this one component? Because I suppose that it still could be a power supply issue -- maybe -- but I'm wondering if it's not a hard drive problem. Who did the testing? What did they test, and how? Hell, it's also possible on a desktop computer that the plug was pulled, either from the wall outlet or from the back of the computer itself.

If it made an EEEEK sound, it's probably your mouse.

I had this problem a few weeks ago. Turned out it was my graphics card and the fan wasnt working properly so the computer was overheating and crashing untill its cooled down enough to work again.

I HAD THIS DONE AT BEST BUY BY THE "GEEK SQUAD", MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR TOLD ME ABOUT THEM. MY HUSBAND TOOK IT HOWEVER, SO ALL I KNOW IS THAT THEY HOOKED SOMETHING TO IT, AND ALL THE "GREEN" LIGHTS CAME ON, SO IT WAS OK, ACCORDING TO MY HUSBANDS EXPLANATION OF IT. I'M NOT EXACTLY "STUPID" WHEN IT COMES TO COMPUTERS. I HAVE HAD MANY HARD DRIVES CRASH, AND THEY HAVE NEVER DONE THIS. THIS IS A NEW ONE ON ME, AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL COMPUTER EXPERIENCES, WHICH I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE MYSELF. IT HAD BEEN BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, MAKING A NOISE, WHICH SOMETIMES WAS LOUD SOMETIMES WAS NOT THERE AT ALL. BUT LATELY ITS BEEN "HUMMING" SO TO SAY STEADILY LATELY, YOU HAD TO BE SITTING IN THAT DESK TO HEAR IT GOOD.DON'T KNOW? PUZZLED!

This commonly happens when you abuse the CapsLock key.

EXCUSE ME BUT I THOUGHT THIS WAS A PLACE TO RECEIVE "PROFESSIONAL/KNOWLEDGEABLE" HELP WITH COMPUTER PROBLEMS. NOT "STUPID" RESPONSES. MY BAD! THIS WILL BE MY LAST AND FINAL QUESTION HERE. THANKS FOR NOTHING!

Sorry your having computer problems & bad experience on AB but part of the problem is people on AB get alittle upset when everything is in all CAP. as this is like yelling. I know I caught heck for some of my forms till I explain how & why they were set up. But for you problem when you explained that you had been hearing a humming noise for a time this well could have been the beginning of the dieing of your hard drive and the eeekk noise your heard in the end was the sound of death. As many HD do this as they go out, they can be tested also to see if good or bad just as the power supply was. They wear out or could have been defective from the beginning. on the subject of power supply if it tested good, chances are it is, for a little test for your own peace of mind, take side off, plug in and turn on, watch fan blades turn. How fast are they moves? should be good speed, let run till PC is good and warm are they still going same speed or have they begun to slow down or even stopped and is power supply hot to touch? If hot to touch and fan has slowed even though PC has been running a while, like you can count the blades as they go around, then probably its bad.

WHAT IF I HAVE TWO HARD DRIVES INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER? WOULDN'T AT LEAST ONE OF THEM FUNCTION TO SHOW ME SOMETHING ON THE SCREEN? THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES WITH HARD DRIVES GOING BAD. ON MY COMPUTER I HAVE THREE HARDDRIVES AND ONE OF THEM IS BAD AND I JUST DISABLED THAT ONE, BUT MY COMPUTER NEVER DID THAT. THE REASON I TYPE IN CAPS IS BECAUSE MY PROGRAMS FOR THE TYPE OF WORK I DO REQUIRES ME TO DO SO, AND THIS IS WHAT I AM USE TO DOING! YOU KNOW WHEN I AM YELLING BY THE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEHIND IT! THANKS FOR THE INFO HOWEVER.

Sounds like the same problem ive got. It could be that the powere supply to the power fan and/or CPU fan is not working. Check the bios setup before it goes into windows , there should be an option to enable failure alarms for each of the fans in the PC Health Status menu , if it then makes a long sustained beep when u enter windows , then u know its the fans that are the problem. Im not sure how to solve this though?
