I can't wait for it to go in effect. No more thick walls of smoke that creates a mild fog throughout the rooms. By the end of the night your hair & cloths are permeated with fag smoke. Yuck. Also, It has seemed to be successful in Ireland and Scotland. I welcome it.

I do not agree with it . I AM NOT A SMOKER, but why should people that are paying the same price for drinks etc be refused the relaxation method of their choice. I agree there should be SOME pubs that are smoke free but feel that in banning ALL smoking in pubs it is an infringement on a large percentage of the populations civil liberties. This is too much 1984 Big brother and Nanny State.
Health used as am excuse is a typical cop out. It is the tax on cigarettes and petrol that keeps the country going

It is the same here. I think it is good, but at one time, smokers were catered to and non-smokers had to suffer. Now it is reversed. I think they could cater just a little to smokers. I traveled with a friend who smokes and granted, they should not smoke, but they do. I would have like to sit with them and talk, even if I was in a smoking section. Most places, I could not, they had to go outside.

i think its right because people who dont smoke should be able to go for a drink without breathing in other peoples smoke, but i also think they should have a seperate room or something for people who do smoke.

I live in scotland where the ban has been in affect for almost a year now (i think) and too be honest it makes pubs a clubs so much cleaner, if your dancing the night away youll be wanting to breath in clean air. and i cant talk for smokers as i am not one myself but i dont think they mind stepping outside for a fag. and if they do, dont go outside, resist the urge for one untill you get into your house where you can smoke the night away. one downside though, if you are stepping outside all night youll miss jokes, and the constant fresh air will sobar you up... hehe

I dont live in the UK, but some bars in the United States have banned smoking inside of bars. I think its a good thing because why should non smokers have to suffer with someones gross habit? It's not only good for the nonsmokers but the smokers as well. Not to mention when you go to a smokey bar, at the end of the night you smell horrible.

Its the best thing our current government is going to have done for us. I bet there will be protests but who cares! It is life vs habit, and life should prevail.

Seeing the change in the US from smoking to non-smoking, it doesn't seem to be too traumatic, though it has been controversial.

I'm in a tobacco state, btw.

In the long run, I'd say everyone will enjoy themselves as much or more than before and certainly SMELL better (and breathe better too)
    when the night is over.

I myself smoke, and I don't have a problem with it. I enjoy my bad habit, but I see no reason why I should inflict my smoke on others who don't, or who may be allergic. It is just rude. No reason why non-smaokers shouldn't be able to enjoy all of the same places I do. If stepping out for a smoke now and then begins to bother me that much, then I need to quit.

The government have caved in to the international Nazi conspiracy. It's not a ban on smoking at all, it's a ban on smokers.
Only a gaggle of gutless wonders would agree with the smoking ban. It's an invasion of personal space and of private freedom. If I choose to relax with nicotine, why should I be labelled a criminal?
Some smokers' pubs and some smokeless pubs would solve the problem.

I think it means I can breathe. That's always good.

I think it's working just fine. People want to smoke, they go outside. If it's raining, which is very likely, tough.

I have never smoked but i was incredibly annoyed at the lack of ashtrays as i use them for crisp packets and other random items and you just look like a spanner handing random objects to the bar staff

I totally despise smoking and it makes me physically ill, as I'm allergic, BUT I believe private clubs and institutions indoors should be able to allow smoking.

Smoking is legal, smokers pay a hell of alot of tax. I think non smoking rooms fine, but why a total ban ? Do people want us all to quit ?, where would you like the tax that would be lost to come from... An extra 2% on your basic rate, 10p on a litre of petrol or maybe we could put 20p on a pint and close the pubs down for good ?

Do it! If people want ot smoke they should have their own pubs and let the non-smokers have theirs! That would be even better and everyone will be happy.

I agree with the ban. I used to be a smoker and hated going to pubs and clubs that allowed smoking because the smoke killed my eyes and I felt so tired so then I stopped smoking about 3 years ago and went down to england for a week few months back and when I went to the pubs down there I hated it even more and my boyfriend who was with me that smokes even hated it aswell. We have got used to it but to be honest, I do understand the part when you are with someone and every so often they go off for a ciggy and Im left on my lonesome unless I stand out in the feezing cold with them (no way lol).So inconclusion I do agree with it but it has its bad points just like when the pubs didnt have the ban.

I live in Melbourne Australia, and we will have a smoking ban come into effect from July 1 this year.

I think its good to ban from most venues as non smokers have rights, but one of my favorite places to go to relax is a cigar lounge.

I am quite worried about what will happen to this great establishment.

If you go to a cigar lounge you accept there will be smoke, the sole purpose of the place is smoke (they do serve drinks but its a secondary function).

I hope they find a loop hole...Please, I need to relax sometimes.

I think the ban is great and it should get expanded to cover other things as well. As a kid I always had to suffer my parents smoking in the car, which in a confined space is horrible and I was not allowed to open my window. Also when my Dad used to light his cigarette he had to take both hands off the wheel and concentrate on doing that, they make all this fuss (quite rightly) about driving and using phones, but nothing about smoking.

I am completely in favor of this ban. Smokers have no right to disturb others for the sake of their "relaxation". If you wish to relax that way, you can do it in private. Let the others breath in a clean disease free air.

I gave up smoking after 30 years at it, but I do not subscribe to the 'Nanny-State' mentality.
If there's too much smoke in a place, I go somewhere else. I'm sick to death of these self-righteous tossers who reckon they know what's good for me and want to control what I can do, even if it is self-destructive.
It's called freedom of choice. Freedom for short.

Unfortunately I've not been in a pub since the ban came about in Wales on 1st April. I do live opposite a pub & in this warm weather I've had to keep my windows firmly closed as the house stinks of smoke where everyone gathers outside in the street to smoke their fags.

I think smoking should be allowed inside pubs and clubs. It hasn't been allowed since I've been old enough to drink legally. I don't see why they shouldn't allow it. After all we're mixing with other adults and most of em are smokers so why ban it?

They banned smoking in bars and clubs here in the last couple of years or so. At the time, I was working as a barmaid, and I didn't really mind that the customers smoked. It wasn't until they stopped that I noticed how much nicer it was without fumes in my face and having to scrub the ashtrays every 30 minutes out back. I actually think it is a good thing. I'm not sure whether it lowers the prevalence of smoking or not, but it certainly makes a night out more tolerable for people who don't smoke and don't wish to have secondhand smoking-related health issues, or at least smokey smelling clothes when they get home. That said, I think that some pubs and clubs should be allowed to be 'strictly smoking' only, to cater to smokers.
