I suppose Indie.. Although I think it's a horrible catagorization for music. Seems like anything that isn't popular in mainstream falls into the catagory. Not very limiting to who they admit into the genre.

Rock

Alt rock as epitomized by Cake.
-
EBM = eLECTRONIc Body MuSIC ,...........
-
House Deep, minimalist, hard, after hours, underground, progressive, acid. I love house.
-
i really like acoustic, something about a really good singer and a solo insturment is so hypnotic.
-
As much as I like some rock, some "new wave", and even some punk, I have to say I'm particular to country and western from the late 40's and most of the 50's, I find it interesting hearing how country at the time was morphing into rock and roll, and just how many Nashville pickers moved on to R+R.
-
I can grasp a wide range of different music, from Appalacian fiddle, Celtic, country, Western Swing, Big Band,,etc,,, but I suppose what I really like on when I am just sitting in the den reading or just looking out the window is light easy jazz.

Rock. And the avant-guarde.

Blues. Without blues, we wouldn't even HAVE rock and roll (which I also love).

Mine would be songs from the 50's and 60's, and I think those are classified as Oldies? They're fun to sing with

Lately I've discovered some very insightful rap artists. So I've been listening to that as well as folk music of all kinds.
-
Metal...because it soothes the savage beast..
-
I don't even like the word "genre" applied to music. I just listen to whatever I want, as I many years ago tired of arguing whether the Undertones were punk or New Wave (correct answer = pop punk), and whether dub was better than reggae. Just listen to what the hell you like and don't waste your time trying to stick labels on it, would be my advice.
-
Hmm. If I had to pick 1 and only 1, I think I might pick Ska. I really love the energy and the horns and stuff. I really want to play the trumpet in a ska band someday.
-
Gospel music, because it ministers to my heart and encourages me when I'm down, and when I need direction.
-

I do not have a favorite genre. I just listen to music that sounds nice. This includes quite a variety. I seem to have an ear for rock that includes non traditional instruments so I have always liked a lot of progressive rock.
-
Soft rock. Barry Manilow & Billy Joel are my favorites
-
The blues and Irish and Persian traditional
-
Punk rock and new wave, obviously.
-
I have pretty broad tastes in music, so it would be impossible to name one genre as my favourite. In fact, most of my favourite music is nigh impossible to firmly classify into a genre. That being said, Punk Rock, Alternative Rock, and just plain old Rock 'N' Roll in general rank pretty high on my list. (Although I have also been known to venture into the realms of Folk and... <Hangs head in embarassment> Country.)
-
R&B, Soul and Modern Ambient Jazz. You can see a lot of my favorite artists listed in my profile.
-
Heavy rock and some metal.

I don't have a favorite, i love music in general but i lean more to industrial, goth and metal.
-
There is great stuff in most genres - be it Classical, Jazz (and its numerous sub-genres), Rock, Reggae, Ska, World. It would be easier to name genres I am not so fond of, such as MOR, German Schlager, much Country & Western (although there are some good ones there), much Techno, much Death- Goth- etc Metal (Hawkwind and Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music pretty much said it all in the 1970s), Electronica (with exceptions), and so on... The concept of genre is in itself problematic.
-
Well, I'm torn between Psychedelic Rock and Grunge. I like the slow, sludgy guitars mixed with poppy melodies.
-

I've thought about this same question for years and now I know I simply have no favorite genre -- other than the the world of music in all its brilliance. The potential to hear new favorite music is constantly with me and the genre makes no difference to this set of ears. :)
