    I can only speak for myself. Whenever I get a scrip for pain meds, such as for dental pain or back pain, I SAVE the leftovers in the fridge. (Keeping meds cold usually preserves their potency longer.)

    Do not mix old and new pills. Mark the exp. date on the lid of each bottle and use the oldest ones first. I've found that hydrocodone and oxycodone (for examples) retain potency months beyond their exp. dates

    NOTE: If you have kids, esp. teenagers, don't bother saving prescription painkillers. Most are addictive, and they have street value. They also have your name on the label. :(
