Hot Springs, Arkansas is a huge retirement town for some reason. Lots of golf courses, mountains and 2 of the top 10 cleanest lakes in the country.

I would have to say Long Beach, CA cause it is where my husband (79) and I (50) live. It has FREE buses for seniors to get around town to various places like resturants, grocery stores, shopping and entertainment.

    Retirement?

Depends upon your definition of what retirement means. You want outdoor activity and warm winters (St. George, UT and Phoenix, AZ) or sandy beaches and a social life (Tampa, FL and Vero Beach, FL) or a cheap place to live (western NC, SC, and VA) or no state income taxes (FL and TX are the warm ones).

Narrow it down a little - will you be working a litlltle or not at all, travelling from your home, 6-month resident, boating, golfing, couch-potato-ing, etc - and WRITE IT DOWN. Then you can get some great info via Google or AARP.

    Good luck!

Definately Phoenix, because it does not have the high humidity of Florida.I know I lived there 5 years. It does not have the hurricanes of Florida,or the earthquakes of southern California.I has dry heat in the summer and no winters.it has mountains close by .

    Naples Florida, or Cape Coral.
Brentwood Tenn , or Franklin Tenn. tax reasons but it does get a little chilly in winter
St Augustine Florida is nice for retirees too and close to allthe major attractions and JAX airport as well as Orlando airports

Yes, check Forbes, U.S. News, or other magazines that publish these reports. Many areas are evaluated so you can review your specific needs. When you get there write us so we know if it's really true. lol.

every newspaper has its own criteria. someone about two weeks ago said that one of the top ten cities in which to retire is roanoke, virginia!!! it has a decent health care system and cheap cost of living. if you don't live in the 100 unsafest blocks in town, the crime rate is really low.

    Sun City, Arizon.
I was in Scottsdale, AZ for a vacation (I am not yet retired) and went for a drive and stayed for a day in Sun City, which is advertized as a retirement town. It was berautiful, but what impressed me the most was
    a) the inexpensive cost of houses, and rentals
    b) People was buzzing around all over town in golf carts (cheap and easier the environment)
    c) the quality of activities available at very nominal cost, if not free.....not just the usual ones you find in any retirement community.
I will return some day and spend a longer period of time there.
Looking for somewhere to spend my winters and get out of the snow!
