Your 3850 should work in any pci express slot for a GPU. Your card is pci express 2.0, but your motherboard may be pci express 1.1 and it should still work but not to the full potential of the 3850 with the extra bandwidth given from a pci express 2.0 motherboard.

Yes they should be fully compatible, the problem may exist with the Motherboards supporting of the card, head off to the manufacturers home page and look for the most recent BIOS update, you may get lucky and they have added support for the card through the update. If you need further help leave me a comment. I currently use The HD3850 ruby edition, its a great card when you get it going. Played assassins creed on full settings looked fantastic not a hiccup :)

no, it's the other way around a 1.0 will work in a 2.0 slot without the added bandwith a 2.0 card won't fit right in a 2.0 slot
