I heard a story about a man who worked for the I.G. Farben Chemical Company that sold chemicals to the Nazi's to kill people at Auschwitz. This man, after the reigning pope was assassinated, became Pope John Paul II. Is this true? Please give sources.

    John Paul II went underground under the Nazis, studied for the preisthood secretly and was later also restricted in his ministry as bishop and archbishop particularly under the Communists in his native Poland.
    Conspiracy theories have been around in the life of the Church since the story about Jesus' body being stolen after His death, to counteract the belief in the Resurrection, and also in other religious and political events before and since. John Paul 1 died of a heart attack after 30 days as Pope, nothing more or less. Wild novels, theoriesof intrigue and conspiracy surround all world events of an unusual and tragic nature.

    First of all there is a conspiracy theory that John Paul the first was assasinated.

    But I've never heard of one that said that JP II helped Nazi's kill Jews. I think that one is pretty off the wall.

    I haven't heard this story before, but I do know the current Pope, Benedict, was a member of the Hitler Youth movement. This was not uncommon at the time, and may have even been compulsory.
