I heard a story about a man who worked for the I.G. Farben Chemical Company that sold chemicals to the Nazi's to kill people at Auschwitz. This man, after the reigning pope was assassinated, became Pope John Paul II. Is this true? Please give sources.

I haven't heard this story before, but I do know the current Pope, Benedict, was a member of the Hitler Youth movement. This was not uncommon at the time, and may have even been compulsory.

First of all there is a conspiracy theory that John Paul the first was assasinated. But I've never heard of one that said that JP II helped Nazi's kill Jews. I think that one is pretty off the wall.

John Paul II went underground under the Nazis, studied for the preisthood secretly and was later also restricted in his ministry as bishop and archbishop particularly under the Communists in his native Poland.
