Help answer this question below.

If someone has been taking this med Clonazepam for over 10 years is that bad and what could happen if they stopped taking it with no help?

    It would be dangerous to stop without at least slowly weaning off a little at a time. Clonazepam can seriously effect blood pressure and breathinh. The withdrawls can be pretty nasty as well. I'd get a doctors advice.

    As with any psychotropic meds, you should only discontinue use under the watchful eye of your Dr. and it should be a weaning, not a sudden stoppage. Sudden stopping can cause suicidal feelings, extreme panic attacks, violent behavior, etc.

    it would be better to work with your doctor and reduce the dosage little by little. my friend takes five mg, and that amountworks for him.

    Well, if they've been taking it for 10 years they're probably physically dependant on the drug ...which means if they stop cold-turkey, they will have a nasty withdrawl which could include life-threatening seizures. Clonazepan must be tapered off gradually under a doctor's supervision in order to minimize withdrawl symptoms. Cold-turkey cessation should NEVER be attempted without medical supervision.
