  • For Cotton When it comes to shrinking fabrics, the hotter the better. Wash the clothes in very hot water, and be sure to use a color-safe detergent(if they are colored) to help preserve the colors in the clothes and to protect any graphics. Place the clothes in a dryer on high heat, and remove it when it's just barely dry. ******Don't allow the shirt to get bone dry. Put some water in an iron, and iron the shirt carefully on a warm steam setting. The steam will promote additional shrinkage.
  • Hot water...but many materials are made nowadays to not shrink.....some will fit a child if your not careful....also a hot dryer will do the same....
