When did the military start taking fingerprints of those enlisted?

    I am uncertain when the practice began, but I was fingerprinted back in the mid sixties. (Before they began using SSNs for identification.)

    I know that my Military ID has a thumb print on the reverse (and one butt-ugly photo on the front). ;-)
