  • there is a program that allows you to work and NOT lose your assistance for at least 9 months. the social security office could guide you further in that. I get it and I can make so much without losing my check BUT if I work, I risk losing my check because my 9 months is up. I would talk to SS.
  • This information can be found at www.socialsecurity.gov Under questions on the right side click on disability. The answer depends on what type of check you have. If your check is based on credits you earned while working then you have a 9 month trial work period. However they can determine that you are no longer disabled even during the trial work period. They can decide that you are no longer disabled even if don't don't get a job. After the 9 month trial work period there is something called sga. I think right now it is at $900. This means you can work and keep your check if you earn less than $900 before taxes. Some medical expenses that are directly related to your work may be deducted but you would have to speak to social security before hand. It is very important to report when you start working. Also every few months you may have to bring in original check stubs. If they tell you to mail it in DON'T. Even though it can be a hassle it is better to go in person. Also always record who you spoke with, the time, and the date. See my second answer if you recieve an supplemental security check which is based on your assets and income if any.
  • This information can be found at www.socialsecurity.gov On the right side under questions click on suplemental security income. If you receive supplemental security then there is no trial work period. I think they allow the first $85 of your monthy income before taxes if you only one check. After that for every $2.00 you earn they deduct $1 from your check. For example: Income from social security $700 Work income before taxes $585 Money deducted from social security $250 585 - 85 is 500 (money allowed) New income from social security $450 I don't know how to figure out how much tax you owe so lets say you make 500 after taxes. Take home work pay $500 Income from social security $450 If you recieve both types of checks then you are allowed $65 per month Are you confused yet? I don't know why they have to make it so confusing but they do. Know if you get two checks a month then it is a whole new ball game. You may be wondering why I didn't just tell you to go talk to social security. I didn't tell you that because often they give you misinformation or confusing information. At least the people I have delt with. Please post another question if you have concerns about medicare/medicaid
  • Social Security has a program called "Ticket to Work" which may be what you're looking for. Here's the website that describes the program: http://www.yourtickettowork.com/program_info The toll free number for this program is: 1-866-968-7842
  • Here in Canada a person who is disabled permanently can earn $100.00 per month and not be penalized. We also have programs where an employer can pay a certain percentage of an employees salary until they perform up to a standard of compitance. Also should someone return to school they are entitled to extra money for things such as books and bus passes. Call your local social services office and call a disabilty assoc. to see what your rights are. Be well informed before going into government offices as all staff are not aware of your rights. Hope this helps!
