  • Bail/bond does not have much to to with sentencing. A bond is placed to release the defendant with a 'good reason' for him/her to stick around for the process of court. It is possible that a person can have a low (like 10 thousand dollar) bail amount but be facing 5 years more or less.
  • Bail has nothing to do with guilt or innocence. Bail is simply collateral to ensure that the person shows up to court. If you cannot pay the bail, you are held until your trial is over and you are exonerated. If you are not exonerated, you are held until you finish your sentence (although the time spent waiting for trial is counted toward the sentence if you do not make bail).
