Sleep paralysis is when you wake up and physically have control of nothing else, almost as if somone is sitting on you not allowing you to get up and move, you generally astral travel whilst this happens, you can see things in your room (or wherever you are sleeping) that you cant usually see from where you are lying. its an extremely scary thing to suffer from.

I've had it, but not that often. I usually only get it as a result of having poor sleep habits that night. The last one I had included a hairy monster with a giant axe. My roommate was awake and visable and I was wondering why my roommate was just sitting there instead of you know. . . killing it. I think I actually woke up and asked him why he didn't kill it.

I have sleep paralysis several times a month.. sometimes 2 or 3 times in 1 night. It is absolutlely one of the worst things to happen. For me, I am in a state of coming out of sleep. I feel fully awake, but I can not move..not even to yell for help.. I start screaming for help but the noise doesn't come out. I am frozen in place and have to concentrate very hard to be able to scream. I am yelling in my head for someone to help me, but I know the sound is not leaving my lips. Slowly..at first just barely a whisper comes out and then very slowly I can start making noises...I have to " work up "to a full_fledged scream. I don't know how long the entire process takes to be able to function again..probably only 5 min. or less, but it feels much longer..
