Have you heard any good "old wives tales" about the significance of the "ring" around the moon on certain nights? Or would you prefer to offer the scientific one?

The only explanatiom which I thought was a wive's tale, but also learned from a Meteorologist is that a haze or (halo) around the moon indicates precipitation, whether rain or snow.

The familiar 22° halo around the Sun or Moon occurs because of refraction in tiny hexagonal ice crystals in the air. With the 60° apex angle of the prism formed by extending the sides of the crystal and the index of refraction of ice (n=1.31) one can calculate the angle of minium deviation to be 21.84°.

i heard it told to me as a little girl by one of my great aunts, who was 98 when I was 10,that a ring around the moon ment more boys will be born within the day before you can see it and the day after.
