4 letters every 5 seconds? err, i'm not sure how many letters per second i can do but... last time i checked was during a comptuer class a few months ago, somewhere around 120 words a minute, sometimes higher, usually only 1 mistake when effort is put in more.

I don't have a way of testing myself, but when my family sees me type, they say I should have a different profession, other than the one I am in, that does not include typing lol! I typed this in 15 seconds or less if that helps.

A top typing speed (taken over a one minute span) of 108 wpm. An average typing speed on a three minute test of between 80-82 wpm with 100% accuracy

I never took typing but I can type about 45-50 words a minute with 90% or so accuracy. Cleaning up any typos on here is not too hard although I wish they had a spell checker!

Well according to "lady Fuscia" and manny,manny other answer baggers I CAN'T ! This is true, I PECK away with two fingers to get a whopping 18 words per min. and several mistakes ! this is better than the whirling 8 words per min and all mistakes I started with

I don't know, how do you find out? Typing to me is like playing the guitar, I get to the point where I don't have to think about it, and I just burn it into my fingers and just do it.

The last time I tried, I got about 71 WPM. I used to be much faster, but since I've become a programmer, my typing is much more deliberate so I don't focus on speed as much as I do on accuracy.

I used to type nearly 120, though I suspect that it's drastically declined in the last two years. So probably 85-90 wpm?

About 90 when I type what I want to. When I do those stupid testing programs my mind has to take in those meaningless phrases and my speed drops dramatically. Addition: I just did a typing test while on the phone with tech support and got 50. You can see what I mean with the programs...

According to http://www.typingtest.com , in the 3 minute test typing "Strategic Alliances with Competitors," I typed at a gross speed of 97 wpm with an average speed of 92 wpm with 94% accuracy...I spend too much time typing on sites like this one, I know my keyboard pretty well lol. Probably because I mostly take a simple question like this one and give it a long, too-detailed answer...

At the moment I can type around 96 words per minute. When I was typing a lot more as part of my job I registered an average of 112 words per minute.

My normal speed is about 20-30 wpm, I can do upto 50 if I know exactly what I am typing, but that is rare and I make too many mistakes to keep it up for a while. My mum has been a legal secretary for over 20 years and has a proven typeing speed of upto 180 wpm with a certificate from microsoft proving it! That is crazy speed and imo must be one of the fastest speeds in the world, not sure if she can do it constantly, she never needs to! But she makes VERY few mistakes.

I haven't taking a class or anything but I'm pretty good at it (typing without looking). I guess I taught myself...and yeah, I do it pretty fast. still make mistakes every once in awhile, though...

I think the best Course I took in High School was Typing. I can type fast, sometimes fifty something words a minute and I don't have to look at they keyboard.

I broke 100wpm a few months ago, and not sure what it is now. I use computers literally EVERY SINGLE DAY, and hopefully my speed is improving gradually. I was very happy about breaking 100, until I read that comment below about 180. lol. Hard to believe, but very commendable if true. Kudos to that guy's mom (you can tell her I said that).

I'm in IT, and began as a programmer. I still do programming at times. I type over 80 WPM (including special keys like braces) without looking at the keyboard.

I cant type about 45 WPM. Usually I don't have to look. The only times atm are the 10 key- It always confuses me because retail tills/registers are backward. On the keyboard the top numbers are 789, on the retail keyboards it's 123 at the top.

When I took a keyboarding class a few years ago, I was typing about 60 WPM, but I've improved now, so I would say probably 90-100WPM if I'm alert.

I used to type about 90. Now I am probably about 75. That is why I hated Chat rooms. I would be Instant Messaging giving tons of paragraphs and others would still be on the first sentence. It gets boring. Be proud. Especially if you use your skills to your advantage in the work world.

In high school my WPM was somewhere around 60 - 65. I always heard anything over 55 was really good! That was in the days of electric typewriters -- which were a little hard to work with at times. I'm a lot faster with word processors/computers!

There was a time, when I was being paid for it, I could do a sustained, accurate 85 wpm.
