  • Just another euphemism. In the US, people refer to it as the bathroom even when there isn't a bath in there, which is just another euphemism. Basically, all words for the place where one voids waste are euphemisdms, but over time they become regarded as too explicit and other ones replace them.
  • Because in older public buildings - and still some very high class ones - the restroom is primarily that: a room with a couch or a day bed or two ... with an adjacent lavatory. Offered primarily for the Ladies' amenities, it was a place where they could go to recover from the vapors, fainting spells, and other corset induced difficulties, or actually just to lie down and take a nap in a place secluded from men, but most of all just to sit and wait comfortably for a commode to become available in the next room.
  • do you bath in a public restroom?
  • I do. There have been a few times where I've taken a nap and found my legs had fallen asleep.
  • Another euphemism that we really don't need.
  • there's already a few correct and well said answers here so I will not reiterate them but I have to say I know a few people that are in the lavatory long enough to take a rest so I guess it could be a restroom!
  • As long as some people take in there I wonder if they are taking a nap...
