  • Well, when clearing paths for roads or farming, lots of vegetation gets cut down or burned out of the way to make room. Not only does this destroy populations of different plant species but it also takes away protection for many animal species. It also introduces more edges between different habitats. When more edges are introduced, wind and light can penetrate further into the forest and dry it out. Fragmentation also discourages relations between different sections of the same habitat. This makes it easier for a species to become threatened.
