Can calcium chloride be used on/as pavement?
by Running, Fall Up on September 18th, 2008
Generally, calcium chloride is used on pavement as a de-icer in a lot of the Northern US. The biggest downsides to using calcium chloride are it is corrosive so it can be harmful to a lot of things (ie your car or the environment) and it is a skin irritant. The biggest reason why it is used is because it will melt ice even at subzero temperatures which is much better than say sand or sodium chloride.
