Help answer this question below.
yup [aussie], and therefore, to be abit more suspicious, i speak in a french accent :p
just kiddin, the moment called for it ;)
No, I was born and raised in New Jersey but I don't have a 'Jersey accent'.
I don't think most people could, but my Georgian relatives say I have a "Yankee accent." Shit, I'm from a border state...
No, they can tell I'm from the north (UK), but not pin it down to a place. I think its because I pick up other peoples accents
Being from the NJ/NY area, at times my accent is detectable. My bf says I say "kawfee" instead of "coffee". HE'S the one with the accent! Not me!
nope, i don't really have an accent....and other times i can grab on to accents easily...
People from Spain, where I live, can tell that I'm British. I'm sure Americans and Australians could tell that, as well. My wife is from a different part of the country and I've picked up bits of her accent. Also I have lived in so many parts of England that I have picked up bits of each area, so I think the best that most people could come up with is that I'm from somewhere "Up North".
Yes. A NY accent will do that to you :)
Canadian,A.
Yes, and when I moved I acquire the accent of the area and sometimes don't even notice it, until my friends tell and kid me about it. There are different accents in the different regions of Texas.
hmm i dont know maybe.
I am certain that if I went somewhere outside of America most could guess me as American.
In the States nobody guesses it. I have a very neutral Californian accent, not the valley accent or any well known Californian accent and had some training in speech classes.
When I am intoxicated I have this neutral accent dipped in a "55 gallon drum" of Romanian Gypsy. I picked that up from my father.
Most people just think "slavic."
Most people can tell I'm American by my accent. Americans can tell I'm a Latina, but not from my accent, but because I look Latina.
You mean that Golden Voice of the Ozarks, they hear from time to time over the air waves.....Naaa I don't think they do....LOL.
No. I get Pennsylvania more than anything else. In Germany some people didn't even know I was American.
Yea I have a fairly thick aussie accent =]
If I'm in England people can hear very easily that I'm from "The North". The funny thing is I only lived there for a couple of years when little - but my parents were from Leeds - We moved around a lot so I'd pick up and loose accents a bit! But the older I get the more the Northern accent seems to surface.
ABSOLUTELY!
While in the military, on a basic training post, a friend and I thought it interesting to guess the origins of the new recruits. We perfected our "craft" so well that we would ALWAYS guess the State that the individual was from. After a while, we were able to isolate a dialect to within 100 miles ... unless the individual had moved from one State to another.
It was a fun game that I still practice from time to time. Unfortunately, without a steady flow of people from all over the country to use as baselines, it is virtually impossible to maintain.
No ,I'm from the Netherlands people think I'm British !
People usually think I'm from Chicago, when I'm actually from Detroit.
From as in where I was born? No, since I speak some kind of English and live in the USA :-)
Yes, Australian. But some people do sometimes think its english accent.
I sound a bit like an educated hick, so people usually know I'm from one of the southern states.
No, not a chance, not even a hope in hell....!
Had some good guesses (Australia, New Zealand - even South Africa). Some sort of right, none correct
I'm from New Zealand. Americans often seem to get confused & think I'm Australian but the rest of the world seems to know that I'm a Kiwi.
hoo noo
At home in the UK people usually can, or at least tell which end of the country I'm from. Foreigners can tell I'm English, but most of them (especially Americans) think that all Englishmen are from London; I'm from Manchester.
Nope. I've got no accent, I just sound American. But if I hang out with my family too much I sometimes adopt a strong southern accent (which I absolutely hate).
So apparently I have sort of a unique accent.
But some say I have a kiwi [New Zealander] accent.
yes pretty much my southern drawl is hard to miss +5
yes, even tho' I have lived in the north of USA for thirty years, most folks know I was raised down south.
"Orite, om from Wuva-amton, I goh a Black Cuntri accent, I live in uh States no wi mi gir-frend, moh Black cuntri accent's wearin off no tho, yuh cehn still nowiss it if yuh goh a traind e-ya, I ay no Brummie tho, om a Yam-Yam Wuvo boy thru n thru, cum on ya Wanderers!"
"Alright, I'm from Wolverhampton, I've got a Black Country accent, I live in the States now with my girlfriend, my Black Country accent is wearing off now though, you can still notice it if you've got a trained ear, I'm not a Brummie though, I'm a Yam-Yam Wolvo boy through and through, come on you Wanderers!"
That's the Black Country way of saying it, then that's the real way of saying it hehe
Black Country (Wolvo, Walsall, Willenhall, Dudley, West Bromwich, Cannock etc) is different from Brummies (Birmingham) accents :)
Yup, NY sticks out...
Other than I'm American and Middle Class that is as close as most people come. People from my own region have trouble knowing conclusively. Only Southerners with a fine tuned ear can tell but it usually because of a particular phrase I may say.
No they cant. I have a total different accent , u would never even know where i am really from... ha ha, its great.
You can't miss my accent, I'm French!!!
I sincerely hope not.
I don't think I have an accent but other people say I do. I am from California :)
I think all they could tell is that I'm from the US and that I'm not from the south, the midwest, Bastin, or New Yak. ;)
No.
No not really.
I was born in Urugay and came to America when I was 11.
So my accent is not bad but you can still hear an accent. Is not a Spanish accent. I dunno some people say I talk like a white girl since most people from NYC that are Spanish have that Rosie Perez accent. But I was raised on Long island so that is why I talk the way I talk ;0P
Pretty much.
I've lived in the deep south my entire life, but have only a faint accent.
Funny because my grandparents say things like "mater" for tomato, "tater" for potato "okrie" for okra and "Co Coler" instead of Coke Cola.
Locals that have tried to place my accent, usually guess California.
Only when I've traveled (Boston, Alaska, Vancouver) did anyone realize that I was southern, . . . but they always guess "Texas".
No :)
No.
Sometimes. My accent is fairly faint. Most people here just think I'm from the North (of US).
No, but after some liquor the Texas comes out
Usually....I'm a New Yorker with a normal accent (not like the bad, affected accents of CSI NY - gag) but in the South, people can always tell I'm from the North, most times they guess New York correctly.
It is obvious from the moment I open my mouth that I am from the Deep South. I don't have a Scarlett O'Hara drawl, but I do sound distinctly Southern!
no, they cant tell where im from lol
