I dont necesarily think humans deserve respect right off the bat. I think respect is something that is earned. Animals should be treated humanely when possible I suppose. I think the treat others as you would like to be treated thing shouldnt apply to animals in all cases. I personally wouldnt want to be killed and eaten but if theres a creature out there that eats humans I cant be too angry at it for getting hungry.

Unfortunately, animals must be harvested for food and clothing. Sorry, that's true. Even animal activist Pamela Anderson admits to owning leather and other animal clothing. However, as long as they are alive, they should be treated as humanely as possible, not unlike the guy on death row who is, at this moment, enjoying his last meal.
I make weekly contributions to the local Humane Society, and have adopted from them before. Hypocrite? I don't think so, some will.

No -- that lowers humans to the level of animals. It is possible and acceptable to look after animals to ensure they are not abused, but elevating animals to the level of humans is goofy.

Animals are put on this earth by God. There are a lot of people who show what level they are on by how they treat the vulnerable. I respect human beings, they of course are supposed to be more intelligent and higher on the divine scale than animals. This is not often the case, however. I would rather spend my life in the company of any animal over most things that pass as human beings these days. There is a lot more to animals that things to be beaten, eaten and killed. They have their own place on this earth and for all the good they do for us, should be loved and respected. No one is saying to bow down to them.

Of course..why shouldn't they? What makes humans think they are superior I do not know. Urgh it disgusts me. The usual excuse for the global, daily and widespread abuse of animals (i.e using them for meat, produce and basically everything they can be) is that they are less intelligent than us. People with downsyndrome are also less intelligent than the average human, but you don't find them lying on a cold steel operating table being ripped to bits in the name of science..and why not? Because it's WRONG.

Do I think animals should get respect? Yes, although I'm not sure respect is the term I would use (I don't think most humans are deserving of respect, either). Do I think they should get as much respect as humans? No. Of course animals should be looked after and treated humanely, but they are not humans and shouldn't be elevated to the level of such.

No. Example: An unwanted rodent in the home would have to go, even if that meant it's death. I respect animals, but it depends on the situation. I don't hunt just to kill. I don't even hunt. I'd rather pet a deer than kill it, unless I was hungry for deer. Am I respecting the deer by eating it if I kill it and not respecting it if I just leave the carcass? Some animals get more respect than humans. If I had Mike Tyson standing by me threatening to kick my ass and a Kodiak bear on the other side you better believe I'd respect that bear a lot more than Mike. I could go on but I won't. Ho hum a bottle of rum.

In some cases yes!Because some people treat their animals(pets)as if they were a human.They bathe them ,feed them and give them a place to sleep.And if they are ill they take them to the vet where they can be helped.Just like when a humans ill we go to the hospital.

Can you buy humans at a human store? Cause I can buy pets at a pet store. And pets like being pets. Many couldn't survive in a world without humans. Most actually. In a country that can barely treat people of different colours with the same amount of respect, I think that we should concentrate on getting our human relations right first before we think of treating animals like humans
