  • Probably because they are completely different things.. But I do agree with you, we are spending too much on the war. I think the Iraqi's need to be selling us oil for like $50 a barrel or something.
  • How much pork barrel spending has McCain approve over the years is what I'd like to know?!
  • Because he can't contradict Bush when he is more of the same.
  • Because the money does not matter to him. He is simply trying to create the impression that it concerns him. He wants to contrast himself to what he calls "tax and spend" liberals. Why anyone would prefer a "borrow and spend" conservative remains a complete mystery. As others have said -- it is more of the same. And we don't need it.
  • because, in accounting terms, the federal government separates out the war from ongoing expenses, including the Department of Defense. it's just a clever way that congress and the president a long time ago got together and agreed to partition it out. i think that giving $85 billion here and $50 billion there and $18 billion to energy companies including $4 billion to exxon mobile ought to be reported as pork!!! oink!!! oink!!!!
  • Whatever his reasons, I would like to thank him on behalf of Halliburton, oil drillers, and Dick Cheney.
  • I'll give you an example of pork barrel spending. John McCain's salary.
  • mccain has voted time and time again in support of the iraqi war that is crippling the financial health of the nation, straining our army, and causing worldwide disgust with u.s. foreign policy. he wants to avoid the issue at all costs and divert our attention elsewhere.
  • Would you rather give your money to lazy people milking the system?
  • wow, this is one to put on the calendar. We agree! ;-) Yeah, Iraq war is bleeding us, and even tho it looks like we are winding down there, its about to kick up in Afghanistan. Ok, next thing that pisses me off about all this politics: Neither side has the guts to come out and say "Social Security is broke, we've got to suck it up and fix it" OR, "Our national deficit is out of control, lets tighten our belts, and fix it." I think the two of those expenses have been ignored for too long.
  • He talks about pork barrel because it is his way out to not answer on the Economy and Foreign Policy by "diverting" issues. He will never say anything against the war in Iraq because he will not contradict GWB and because he is pro war. Regarding Iraq, check the enclosed link by Prince Zeid of Jordan, it is a pleasure to listen to educated people at least once in a while: http://fora.tv/2008/04/17/Prince_Zeid_on_Peace_in_the_Middle_East
